The IARC Regular Budget has grown during the past decade thanks to the admission of new Participating States, with the number rising from 19 in 2008 to 25 in 2018.


Allocation of Regular Budget for 2018–2019

The IARC Regular Budget for the 2018-2019 biennium is allocated to the following six priority strategic objectives.


  1. Describe the occurrence of cancer

  2. Understand the causes of cancer

  3. Evaluate and implement cancer prevention and control strategies

  4. Increase the capacity for cancer research

  5. Provide strategic leadership and enhance the impact of the Agency′s contribution to global cancer research

  6. Enable and support the efficient conduct and coordination of research


2016–2017 Regular Budget and Expenditure


The activities during the first year of the current biennium progressed well, and the figure below compares the budget and the expenditure in 2016–2017 for each strategic objective.
