The IARC Regular Budget has grown during the past decade thanks to the admission of new Participating States, with the number rising from 19 in 2008 to 24 in 2017.

Note: 24 Participating States are contributing to the 2016–2017 Regular Budget. Morocco′s membership was accepted in May 2015, and Morocco will provide its full contribution to the IARC Regular Budget starting from the 2018–2019 biennium.

Allocation of Regular Budget for 2016–2017

The IARC Regular Budget for the 2016-2017 biennium is allocated to the following six priority strategic objectives.

  1. Describe the occurrence of cancer

  2. Understand the causes of cancer

  3. Evaluate and implement cancer prevention and control strategies

  4. Increase the capacity for cancer research

  5. Provide strategic leadership and enhance the impact of the Agency′s contribution to global cancer research

  6. Enable and support the efficient conduct and coordination of research

2016 Regular Budget and Expenditure

The activities during the first year of the current biennium progressed well, and the figure below compares the budget and the expenditure in 2016 for each strategic objective.
