Postdoctoral Fellowship for Training in Cancer Research 2013-2014

Applications for a training fellowship in 2013-2014 are invited from postdoctoral scientists who are Irish citizens or non-Irish citizens currently living and working in the Republic of Ireland1, who intend to pursue a career in cancer research and wish to complete their training in those aspects of cancer research related to the Agency's mission and of priority for the Irish Cancer Society, in particular, in projects with a focus on epidemiology (including genetic and molecular) or on interdisciplinary projects involving epidemiology. Applicants must intend to return to the Republic of Ireland upon completion of the Fellowship.

The Fellowship is tenable at the IARC in Lyon, France working in a research Group. The fellowship is for a period of two years, the second year being subject to satisfactory appraisal, with the subsequent opportunity to apply for a "Return Grant" provided by the Irish Cancer Society to return to a position in the Republic of Ireland with a salary for one year. Candidates are required to have finished their doctoral degree within five years of the closing date for application or be in the final phase of completing their doctoral degree (M.D. or Ph.D.). The working languages at IARC are English and French. Candidates currently working as IARC-funded postdoctoral scientists, or candidates who have worked at the Agency for a period greater than six months, cannot be considered. Candidates must contact the host Group of their choice at IARC before application in order to interact closely to establish a proposed programme of mutual interest. 1The Irish Cancer Society has funded IARC in this regard, requesting that IARC conducts training on its behalf as per the priorities defined in IARC's statutes and Medium-Term-Strategy and Implementation Plan for 2010-2014. The purpose of this Fellowship is to build capacity in cancer epidemiology research, including genetic and molecular epidemiology, in the Republic of Ireland.
