Mechanisms of Carcinogenesis - Molecular Mechanisms and Biomarkers Group

Current Research Topics:

(i) Development of cell models for mechanistic studies of molecular events, genetic changes, and biological processes associated with exposure to environmental carcinogens, to address critical steps of cancer development and progression.

(ii) Molecular profiling of tumour specimens (urological, breast, ovarian, and liver cancers) collected in the context of epidemiological studies to identify molecular changes (e.g. mutational and transcriptomic signatures) associated with environmental exposures, in particular in low-income countries.

(iii) Maintenance and development of a database of TP53 genetic variations in human cancers, and use of TP53 mutations as biomarkers of cancer etiology and carcinogen exposures; development of open-source bioinformatics tools for analyses of somatic alterations.

(iv) Translation of findings generated by mechanistic and molecular epidemiology studies into biomarkers for cancer risk assessment and environmental exposures.
