IARC hosts workshop on Registration of Childhood Cancer: Challenges and Opportunities

Today, the Section of Cancer Surveillance at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) is hosting a workshop on Registration of Childhood Cancer: Challenges and Opportunities. This workshop is part of the Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer (GICC), which was launched by the World Health Organization (WHO) in September 2018.

The workshop is supported financially by WHO and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, located in Memphis, Tennessee, USA. Participants in the workshop will discuss strategies to disseminate information about the goals and activities of the GICC and identify gaps, needs, and barriers to the provision of comparable high-quality data globally. They will also propose mechanisms to monitor the progress of the GICC and explore how data can be used to reduce the burden of cancer in children.

The GICC aims to raise awareness of childhood cancer at global and national levels and to expand the capacity of countries to deliver best practice in childhood cancer care. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is the WHO Collaborating Centre for Childhood Cancer.
