7th IARC Cancer and Society Lecture: “Cancer control: public health solutions to our greatest challenges” by Professor Emily Banks

Professor Emily Banks will visit the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) to deliver the 7th IARC Cancer and Society Lecture on Tuesday 3 March 2020. Her lecture, on “Cancer control: public health solutions to our greatest challenges”, will be broadcast via live streaming from 9:25 am on that day.

The presentation will explore public health solutions to the greatest current challenges to cancer control globally, focusing on innovation, the generation of reliable evidence, implementation of known effective measures at scale, regulation, and addressing health inequalities. It will highlight effective approaches and systems for cancer control as well as factors that hinder cancer control efforts and must be overcome.

Professor Banks is a public health physician and epidemiologist with interest and expertise in chronic disease, large-scale epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, Aboriginal health, and healthy ageing. She leads the Epidemiology for Policy and Practice group at the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health, Australian National University. She is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences and a Visiting Professor at the University of Oxford, United Kingdom.
