Allegations of scientific misconduct at IARC are unfounded

During 2018, anonymous allegations of scientific misconduct by IARC scientists were made on PubPeer and other media outlets. These allegations related predominantly to image manipulation in figures in articles published in scientific journals between 2001 and 2016.

In response the Agency followed the IARC Policy on Scientific Misconduct: see IARC Policy on Scientific Misconduct

The preliminary investigation examined original data and notebooks relating to all work conducted at IARC and included in the papers listed in PubPeer. The investigation found no evidence of scientific misconduct and concludes that the allegations are unfounded. The independent Chair of the IARC Ethics Committee has reviewed the report and agrees with the conclusions.

IARC authors of the scientific papers cited in the allegations will provide their original data to the editors of the journals concerned.
