Essential TNM: a registry tool to reduce gaps in cancer staging information

A new study coordinated by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and partners, published today in The Lancet Oncology, presents Essential TNM, a novel, simplified version of the tumour–node–metastasis (TNM) staging system. Essential TNM can be used by cancer registries to code stage when full TNM information is not available. Essential TNM is expected to improve the availability and comparability of staging data at the population level, and thus support future clinical and public health planning.
