The global burden of cancer is increasing, and patterns of incidence and mortality are changing rapidly as people in lower-resource countries adopt cancer-associated lifestyle choices such as tobacco use and "westernized" diet. What is the extent of these changes, and what are their implications? Based on IARC's worldwide standard set of cancer incidence and mortality estimates, GLOBOCAN 2008, a new publication in
CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians entitled "Global Cancer Statistics" aims to quantify the scope of the problem-- and its prevention-based solutions-- for the practicing clinician.
