IARC hosts first meeting of Uncovering International Disparities in Metastatic Breast Cancer Outcomes (UNCOV-MBC) project

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) is hosting the first meeting of the Uncovering International Disparities in Metastatic Breast Cancer Outcomes (UNCOV-MBC) project on 27–28 February 2020.

The project aims to examine how cancer registries in different countries collect information about new and recurrent metastatic breast cancer and the respective patient outcomes. Using these data, the researchers will develop protocols to guide data collection and, for the first time, quantify the burden of metastatic breast cancer, including recurrent disease. This will enable better comparison of data between countries and better monitoring of information about survival, recurrence, and progression of breast cancer.

The UNCOV-MBC project is supported by a Career Catalyst Research Grant awarded to IARC scientist Dr Melina Arnold by the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which will support her research for 3 years.
