Second cancer screening study visit to the United Kingdom for the BELMED project

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Europe organized a second study visit to the United Kingdom on 17–23 March 2019 within the BELMED project. A group of five professionals involved in pilot organized breast cancer screening programmes in Belarus observed the activities of the National Health Service Breast Screening Programme.

The group visited different Public Health England training venues and service providers as part of a training programme developed by IARC within the “Preventing noncommunicable diseases, promoting healthy lifestyle and support to modernization of the health system in Belarus 2016–2019” project, also known as BELMED, which is funded and supported by the European Union.

Since the study visit, new training activities, both within Belarus and abroad, have been initiated for professionals from Belarus, and further improvements to current breast cancer screening practices in Belarus have been implemented. IARC also received an acknowledgement letter from the director of the N.N. Alexandrov National Cancer Centre of Belarus.
