The European response to the WHO call to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health problem

In a new article, scientists from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and partners propose actions for European countries to adopt in response to the call by the World Health Organization (WHO) to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health problem. The authors also underline the need for a third edition of the European Union guidelines for integrated primary and secondary prevention of cervical cancer. The article was published in the International Journal of Cancer.

The researchers propose four main action areas that could help European countries to reduce the incidence of cervical cancer to the level of a very rare disease (≤ 4 cases per 100 000 women per year) by 2050 to 2065.
