The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) welcomed members of the diplomatic community, strategic partners, and members of the Rotary Club de Lyon and the Fondation de France Centre-Est to the conference “Alimentation raisonnée et prevention du cancer” (Balanced diet and cancer prevention), which took place at IARC headquarters in Lyon, France, in the evening on 11 December 2019.
During the event, IARC Director Dr Elisabete Weiderpass highlighted that everyone can act to reduce their individual risk of cancer by changing certain habits and adopting a healthy lifestyle. A leaflet promoting healthier nutritional choices invited attendees to commit to reducing their cancer risk by making one or several small changes to their diet.
Mr Pierre Mouton, President of the Rotary Club de Lyon, and Mr Yves Minssieux, President of the Lyon committee of the Fondation de France Centre-Est, presented their organizations’ mandates. This was followed by presentations by Ms Fanny Herpin, a medical research programme manager at the Fondation de France, on increasing awareness about healthy nutrition practices, and by Dr Inge Huybrechts, a nutritional epidemiologist at IARC, on understanding the role of diet in cancer development.
