Major EU project to tackle complications of cancer treatment in childhood and adolescence
Survival of patients affected by cancer in childhood and adolescence has improved substantially, such that up to 80% of these patients survive 5 years after their diagnosis. However, the treatments leading to these favourable results often lead to variable long-term side-effects in the survivors, including physical disability, cardiovascular or kidney insufficiency, hormone imbalances affecting fertility or cognitive function, and others.
