Video recordings are now available of the presentations given during the first public discussion event hosted by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and Centre Leon Bérard (CLB). The event, “Prévenir le cancer du sein : on en parle ?” (Preventing breast cancer: will we talk about it?), took place on 8 October 2019 at the IARC headquarters building in Lyon, France.
IARC postdoctoral scientist Dr Mathilde His presented information on breast cancer risk factors, including fixed risk factors, such as genetics and age, and modifiable risk factors, such as alcohol consumption and body mass. She concluded with recommendations that women can follow to reduce their risk of developing breast cancer.
Dr Pierre Heudel, an oncologist at CLB, spoke about breast cancer screening in France. He explained why breast cancer screening programmes are established for certain segments of the population and why women should participate in these programmes.
In the future, IARC and CLB will host more joint events, which will cover different topics related to cancer and cancer prevention. To stay informed about these events, subscribe to the IARC newsletter or follow IARC on Twitter.
