Molecular Mechanisms and Biomarkers Group
The Molecular Mechanisms and Biomarkers Group (MMB) conducts studies aimed at better understanding mechanisms of carcinogenesis and at identifying biomarkers applicable in molecular epidemiology and cancer prevention. This is achieved through investigating molecular and genetic changes, gene function, and gene-environment interactions. MMB also studies the effects of environmental exposures on molecular changes to discover and validate new cancer biomarkers that can be used as biomarkers of exposures. MMB has developed a multi-faceted research programme that builds on new and existing collaborative studies and combines experimental (mechanistic) studies in model systems with molecular epidemiology studies on human biospecimens. To this end, MMB develops and uses modern genomic platforms and bioinformatics approaches, complemented by methods of molecular/cell biology and biochemistry.
